Skilled Nursing / Swing Bed Services

“We provide the same quality care as the big hospitals, with a touch of home!”

What is Swing Bed?

The Swing Bed program, sometimes referred to as Skilled Nursing, is a special program reserved for small hospitals with less than 100 beds, such as ours. Swing Bed is a program where you can recover from an accident, illness, or surgery in a close-to-home facility.

Parkview Hospital is proud to be able to offer a Swing-bed/Rehabilitation program. The skilled nursing program is here to meet the needs of our patients who are in a transition phase of illness or recovery, and those whose medical needs cannot be met at home, or in a long-term care facility, but whose condition no longer requires admission to an acute care unit.

Our skilled nursing program provides the rehabilitation and recovery services based on your individual needs. Our devoted nurses and caregivers love what they do, and it shows.

You may qualify for coverage of skilled nursing care or skilled therapy, if it’s necessary to:
• Help improve your condition; or
• Maintain your current condition or prevent/delay its worsening.

Do I qualify for care in a skilled facility?

To qualify for care in a skilled facility your physician must certify that you need daily skilled care, such as IV therapy or physical therapy.

What You Pay:

• Days 1-20: Medicare covers 100% of these charges. You pay nothing for the first 20 days of each benefit period.

• Days 21-100: Medicare covers 80% of these charges. You pay a co-pay per day from day 21 to 100 of each benefit period. Your secondary insurance if you have one, may pick up these charges.

• After 100 days of each benefit period, you pay 100% of the charges.

What is covered under the Swing Bed benefit?

An inpatient hospital stay begins the day the hospital formally admits you as an inpatient, based on a doctor’s order, and doesn’t include the day you’re discharged.  After a 3-day minimum, medically necessary, inpatient hospital stay, Medicare will cover private rooms, meals, skilled nursing and rehabilitative services, and supplies.  You can be admitted to the Skilled Unit on your discharge date, or within 30 days of that date. Your doctor will make visits every 3 to 4 days.

Our dedicated staff personally gets to know each patient individually. We will anticipate your needs and serve as your advocate. You will receive the time and attention you need to reach your full potential at Parkview Hospital.
